Ok Nice with Alex Forrest
Alex Forrest of the two-man sketch team Home Planet answers 5 questions and provides a playlist
No one’s making stuff quite like Home Planet, the two-man sketch team behind some of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen—not being hyperbolic, folks. The brains behind the whole operation, Alex Forrest and Joe Gleason, continue to crank stuff out week after week and deliver every time, no skips. I don’t know who their influences are because there’s nothing really to draw from. The sketches are dark, weird—dare I say a tad Lynchian—and funny. As soon as you think you know where the sketch could be going, it does the exact opposite and leaves you in a trance-like state wondering—in the best possible way—how the hell they got to that ending. To me, that’s the best stuff. They’ve carved out a genre and a voice that tons of comedians will try and copy. It’s only a matter of time until their stuff gets the recognition it deserves. Please for the love of God let them have a 30 minute sketch show on Netflix.
I highly encourage all to visit their Twitter, where you can see all the vids. Some of my personal favorites include:
Without further ado, here’s five questions and a playlist with ½ of the brains behind Home Planet, Alex Forrest.
What’s your day-to-day look like?
If I don’t have to work at my stupid job (coffee shop) I usually wake up around 9ish. I’ll go for a walk and grab a bite to eat. If I’m not working on a vid or anything, I’ll usually spend the day watching movies and tv. And also drinking coffee until I give myself a mental illness and/or diarrhea. Most days when I don’t have work are usually committed to Home Planet stuff. Me and Joe Gleason (the other 1/2 of Home Planet and my best friend) are really bad at planning things out long term. So we usually make videos on a week-to-week basis. This just pretty much means that we write/shoot/edit everything in like 3 days and then post immediately. Me and Joe write together but he shoots and edits everything himself. He is a warrior poet and I am in love with him. He is Home Planet. Without him I’d just be some chode doing weird voices into my iPhone. Working with Joe really helps me feel centered, but I also really like to write stuff by myself. I’ve been trying this new thing where I wait all day to write, and then at around midnight I’ll go to my room and write until I pass out. It is hard.

Best advice you’ve been given?
I feel like it is essential that at least once in our lives, someone tells us to "shut the fuck up" in a very mean way. We all need that and it's important.
Favorite thing you own?
Over the summer I was at a beach with my friend Alex Casola and I found a really cool rock. I like it and I sleep with it on my nightstand. It is a good rock.
What’s your go to beverage?
I like Whiskey Sours because they taste like lemonade.
Favorite piece of art?
Elaine May’s entire filmography. I want to make something that looks like something she could have made. I also like the part in Avengers 3 when Thor arrives in Wakanda!
